Journeyman forward Chad Barrett will spend his 13th Major League Soccer season in Utah after signing on with Real Salt Lake, the club announced Monday.

Barrett, who joins his seventh MLS side since making his debut in 2005, is expected to serve as the team’s backup No. 9 behind Yura Movsisyan and Alvaro Saborio

“Chad is a hard-working competitor with a nose for the goal,” general manager Craig Waibel said. “He’s proven throughout his career that he can be an impact player either as a starter or off the bench and we’re happy to add him to the locker room.”

He announced the move on Twitter three days before Real Salt Lake made the acquisition official.

The 31-year-old forward – who previously represented the Chicago Fire, Toronto FC, L.A. Galaxy, New England Revolution, and the Seattle Sounders – scored two goals in 20 appearances with the San Jose Earthquakes last season.

His 58 career goals have Barrett ranked 35th in the league’s all-time scoring list.
