BVB's Can rejected United offer because of Liverpool allegiance
Most footballers don’t think twice when there’s an opportunity to join a club like Manchester United.
But for Emre Can, the decision to reject an offer to join the Red Devils in January was a no-brainer, with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder citing his allegiance to United’s biggest rivals, Liverpool.
“I had three offers from Premier League alone,” he told kicker, as translated by Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC. “There was one from Manchester United. But I did not think about this for one second because of my Liverpool past.”
The German international spent four years in Liverpool before leaving the Reds in 2018 to join Juventus.
After limited opportunities in Turin led to frustration, Can expressed his desire to depart Juventus before the January transfer window opened.
Despite United’s approach, the 26-year-old opted to join German club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season in an agreement that includes an obligation for the Bundesliga team to buy him.
