Look: Atlanta United gives reporters sheet with proper soccer terminology
Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports
Atlanta United is set to kick off its inaugural season in Major League Soccer on Saturday, and the club is making sure its reporters are equipped to handle the nuances of soccer writing with this sheet of oft-used terms.
The players – sans goaltender goalkeeper Brad Guzan – are set to tie up the laces of their cleats boots and take to the field pitch against the New York Red Bulls at a sold-out Bobby Dodd Stadium, with 55,000 fans supporters set to fill the stands and take in the match, singing in tandem while sporting their new red-and-black jerseys kits.
While a zero-zero nil-nil tie draw against the Red Bulls would usually satisfy, there are heightened expectations for this game match, as the weight of club history sits upon the players’ collective shoulders.
Hopefully, the city’s intrepid reporters can write a story worth remembering, and do so without calling it football.
