Report: Barcelona eyeing summer moves for Aguero, Depay
Barcelona are gearing up for a busy summer that could feature numerous notable arrivals at the Camp Nou.
The Catalan side has been in contact with representatives for Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero and Lyon star Memphis Depay, report ESPN FC’s Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens.
Completing a deal for at least one of the out-of-contract players this summer is believed to be “highly likely,” sources told Marsden and Llorens.
Both attackers can arrive on a free transfer after their respective contracts expire at the end of June.
There’s apparently uncertainty at Barcelona over Aguero’s wage demands, age, and fitness struggles this season with the Premier League champions. But Marsden and Llorens report that Barca are hopeful the 32-year-old will accept a pay cut to play alongside his friend and Argentina teammate, Lionel Messi.
Aguero, Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer, announced his impending departure earlier this season after 11 years at the club.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will revive their pursuit of Depay a year after appearing to come close to signing the 27-year-old from Lyon. A deal for the Dutchman reportedly collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee.
Depay has 21 goals and 10 assists in 35 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
Barcelona are also keeping tabs on Erling Haaland’s situation at Borussia Dortmund, according to Llorens and Marsden, who add that the costs involved will likely prohibit the club from striking a deal for the highly coveted 20-year-old hitman this summer.
Other possible transfer candidates reportedly include Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak, Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, and Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno.
